Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
ASTM A105 is standard forged carbon steel intended for ambient and higher-temperature service in pressure systems. In contrast, ASTM A350 LF2 is specifically Charpy V-Notch impact-tested and designed for low-temperature service environments down to -46°C (-50°F).
Duplex stainless steels like ASTM A182 F51 and F53 offer significantly higher tensile and yield strength than standard austenitic grades (304/316) along with superior resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking, making them ideal for marine, chemical, and offshore applications.
These chrome-moly alloy steel grades provide enhanced creep strength and oxidation resistance at elevated temperatures. They are widely utilized in power generation plants, petrochemical refining, and high-pressure steam line piping systems.
RF stands for Raised Face (the most common standard gasket surface), FF stands for Flat Face (often used with cast iron or delicate equipment to prevent bolting stress), and RTJ (or FTJ) stands for Ring Type Joint, designed for high-pressure and high-temperature sealing using metal ring gaskets.
ASTM A694 grades (such as F42, F52, F60, and F65) are high-yield strength forged carbon and alloy steels specifically tailored for high-pressure oil and gas transmission pipelines, wellhead equipment, and cross-country gathering systems.
