Frequently Asked Questions

Here are the answers to the most common questions you may encounter. If you still cannot find the answer you want, please contact us!

Category 1: General & Ordering

  • Q: What types of steel products does Cortec Steel provide?

A: Cortec Steel is a supplier of a wide array of steel products. Our most common categories include Welded Steel Pipes: (ERW, LSAW, SSAW), Seamless Steel Pipes, Hollow Sections (Square and Rectangular), Anti-Corrosion Coated Pipes (3LPE, FBE, Sprinkler), Galvanized Steel Pipes (Hot-Dipped, Pre-Galvanized, Zinc-Aluminum), and Scaffolding Systems (Ringlock, Kwikstage). We also provide PV Solar Structure solutions and Agricultural Greenhouses.
  • Q: How do I get a quote for my project?

  • Q: Do you ship products internationally?

  • Q: What quality certifications do you have for your products?

Category 2: Product Specifications & Differences

  • Q: What is the difference between ERW, LSAW and Seamless steel pipes?

A: The main difference is based on how it is made and the typical application:

    • ERW (Electric Resistance Welded): Formed by rolling a steel strip in a tubular form and welding the longitudinal seam. Very efficient and economical. Typical application is low to medium pressure applications. Water transport, Structural applications.

    • LSAW/SSAW (Submerged Arc Welded): Made from steel plates. This means large diameter product can be created. LSAW is the primary method for larger diameter pipelines in oil, gas, water transmission.

    • Seamless (SMLS): Made from a solid steel Billet with no weld seam. This means the strongest pipe, and handles most pressure. Typical application is high pressure (Oil Drilling) and high temperature (Boilers).

  • Q: When would you use Hot-Dipped Galvanized (HDG) over Pre-Galvanized pipe?

  • Q: What benefits do 3LPE coatings provide for pipelines?

  • Q: For scaffolding what is the difference between Ringlock and Kwikstage systems?

Category 3: Application & Industry Solutions

  • Q: What are the best steel pipes for Oil and Gas pipelines?

A: In the oil and gas industry, there are several standards which pipelines must adhere to. API 5L standard for example! Given all of the possible use cases, the best products depends on use:

    • For high pressures transporting (i.e., wells) and drilling, best practice is deploying API 5L Seamless Pipe.

    • For constructing transmission lines over long distances, the best practice is deploying API 5L LSAW or SSAW. When deploying LSAW/SSAW pipes that meet the API 5L standard, they should have a 3LPE/FBE anti-corrosion coating applied to ensure longevity and safety.

  • Q: What products do you suggest for Structural Engineering?

  • Q: Can you supply pipes for high-pressure hydraulic systems?
