Detailed Description of Pre-Galvanized Steel Pipe
Pre-galvanized pipe, sometimes referred to as mill-galvanized or in-line galvanized pipe, utilizes a different method for zinc protection. Different from post-galvanizing (hot-dip galvanizing), pre-galvanizing uses a steel strip that has been galvanized when the strips are made into pipes in a continuous process. The steel strip is galvanized and rolled into a tube using rollers. The edges of the tube are joined together with high-frequency induction welding. After welding is done, the exterior weld seam received a coating of zinc-rich invective spray to restore corrosion resistance. This is very fast and makes very smooth and uniform pipe, making it visually pleasing for many different applications.

Core Features |
ASTM A653/A653M |
Pre-Galvanized Steel Pipe |
Standard specification for steel sheet, zinc-coated (galvanized) or zinc-iron alloy-coated (galvannealed) by the hot-dip process. The pipe is formed from this pre-coated sheet. |
EN 10346 |
Pre-Galvanized Steel Pipe |
European standard for continuously hot-dip coated steel flat products. This is the base material for pre-galvanized pipes. |
Main Application Areas for Pre-Galvanized Pipe
Pre-galvanized pipe is often specified for various applications, because of its bright finish and moderate corrosion resistance, as noted below.
● Electrical Conduit: For encasing electrical wires and cables in residential and commercial buildings.
● Furniture Manufacturing: For metal frames used for tables, chairs, shelving units and other metal furniture.
● Indoor Structures: Handrails, support frames (for walls and displays), partitions, or other structures where elevated levels of corrosion resistance isn't required compared to material specified for the outside.
● Fencing: For posts and fencing panels mainly for residential and light commercial.
● Automotive Parts: Pre-galvanized pipe can be used for various non-critical automotive components.
● Agricultural Greenhouse Frames: A typical structure material for greenhouse.
Advantages of Pre-Galvanized Steel Pipe
● Economical: Usually less expensive than hot-dipped galvanized pipes due to a more efficient manufacturing process.
● Nice & Clean Finish: The consistent coating gives a nice bright finish.
● Good Tolerances: The forming process gives good control on dimensions.
● Good for fabrication: Bending and cutting and forming, not much damage to the coating.
● Good for indoors: Usually gives adequate level of corrosion protection good for indoor and moderate environments.
