SSAW Spiral Submerged Arc Welded Steel Pipe - Top Quality China Suppliers & Factory Direct Sales

SSAW (Spiral Submerged Arc Welded) pipe, also referred to as HSAW (Helical Submerged Arc Welded) pipe, is a product offered by leading China suppliers and manufacturers. This type of pipe is made by helically forming a steel strip or plate, followed by welding the spiral seam through the submerged arc welding process. Such a methodology enables the efficient production of large diameter pipes using narrower raw materials, making it a preferred choice in various industries.

    Detailed Description of SSAW Pipe

Spiral Seam Submerged Arc Welded Steel Pipe (SSAW / HSAW) is manufactured through a unique spiral forming process, in which the hot rolled steel strip is first flattened and then spirally coiled at a forming angle of 15–60°, and then internally and externally welded using a double wire submerged arc welding process. This process is capable of producing a 2.5 meter diameter pipe from a 1.2 meter wide steel strip, with a material utilization rate 15–20% higher than that of a straight seam welded pipe, and the spiral weld allows for a more uniform stress distribution. Its excellent cost performance makes it widely used in engineering fields such as oil and gas transportation, submarine pipelines and urban pipeline corridors, especially suitable for long-distance pipeline construction and low-temperature environments.

    ? Frequently Asked Questions

Q What is the difference between SSAW pipe and LSAW pipe?
SSAW (Spiral Submerged Arc Welded) pipe is formed by spirally coiling a steel strip at a specific angle and welding along the spiral seam, while LSAW (Longitudinal Submerged Arc Welded) pipe is formed from a single steel plate with a straight longitudinal weld. SSAW pipe can produce larger diameters from narrower strips with higher material efficiency (15–20% higher), whereas LSAW pipe typically offers higher pressure resistance and is preferred for thicker wall applications.
Q What outer diameter range is available for SSAW pipe?
SSAW pipe is available in outer diameters ranging from 219.1mm to 3500mm (8" to 140"), making it one of the most versatile large-diameter pipe options for infrastructure and industrial projects.
Q Which international standards does SSAW pipe comply with?
SSAW pipe can be manufactured to a wide range of international standards, including API 5L, ASTM A252, ASTM A53, ASTM A333, EN10217, EN10219, ISO 3183, GB/T9711, GB/T3091, SY/T5037, DIN1626, JIS G3444, and GOST 20295, ensuring compatibility with global project specifications.
Q What surface treatment options are available for SSAW pipe?
SSAW pipe can be supplied with various surface treatments to suit different environmental and operational conditions, including Bare, Black Painting, Varnish, Anti-rust Oil, 3PE coating, FBE (Fusion Bonded Epoxy) coating, Epoxy Coating, and Bitumen Coating. The appropriate coating is selected based on the service environment and project requirements.
Q What are the main application fields of SSAW pipe?
SSAW pipe is widely used in oil and gas transportation, submarine pipelines, urban pipeline corridors, water supply infrastructure, and structural piling. Its large diameter range and cost efficiency make it especially suitable for long-distance pipeline construction and low-temperature operating environments.
Q What inspection and testing methods are applied to SSAW pipe?
SSAW pipe undergoes comprehensive quality control including Chemical Analysis, Mechanical Testing (tensile, yield, impact), Hydrostatic Testing, Non-Destructive Testing (Ultrasonic UT, Radiographic RT, Magnetic Particle MT), Dimensional Inspection, and Weld Inspection, ensuring full compliance with the specified standard and project requirements.
